I was excited about having the entire day Sunday to enjoy New York City before my evening flight. I knew there were so many things I would want to do, but, I couldn’t make any decisions and asked for ideas on facebook. Wouldn’t you know, one of my “fb friends” Marc was planning to be in the area and needed a photographer. I’ve known Marc and Colleen Wheeler for years and they are fabulous people. Marc messaged me that his daughter’s boyfriend planned on proposing to his only daughter, Kennedy, on top of Rockefeller Center Sunday morning! He wanted to know if I could photograph the proposal and I was completely on board! How perfect. Such amazing timing and it just so happens that I had already decided to go visit “30 Rock” and take in the views of NYC.
That morning, I did my best to stay behind the family during the walk through 30 Rock up to the rooftop. I had so much fun playing the “paparazzi tourist” and the proposal went perfectly. Michael acted like he was taking pictures of Kennedy and the Empire State Building and then dropped to his knee. Kennedy turned around and her reaction was priceless! Needless to say, she said YES! 🙂
After celebrating with the family and several random well-wishers, we decided to take in the city and I photographed the couple in an impromptu engagement session. It was SO MUCH FUN! What a great way to end my whirlwind trip to the Big Apple. I had a perma-grin the entire weekend. 🙂
Many thanks to Marc and Colleen Wheeler. They run the Bridal and Wedding Expo known as Wedding Festivals. If you are a bride or wedding professional – definitely consider Wedding Festivals. I’ve loved having my booth at the Asheville Show.
Enjoy the images!
I’m not really sure where to begin? There are so many stories spinning in my head. A quick trip to NYC will do that to you, I suppose.
I’ve known the Jensen family through my Little Switzerland connection for years, however, I had not officially met Jessica Jensen until this trip. I was happy to book her 2018 wedding, but, thrilled when she asked if I would document their engagement in New York City. I mean – really? Knock that one off my photography bucket list.
After checking in to my fab hotel (thanks Jess) I met up for lunch with Jessica and Andrew and then we were off to work. We covered so much ground in one day. It was hard to believe we managed a 5 hour engagement shoot? Special props to Andrew for hanging with the best of them – you are a champ.
I love getting to know my couples through engagement sessions. It gives me a good feel for how they will be on the wedding day – and it’s just all around a fun time. And, how cool to get a mini-tour of Fox News by Jessica? She works in PR at Fox and indulged me with a peek inside. Seriously – I met the cast of the weekend show – and my kids now think I’m a celebrity. 🙂 Pic below.
Oh, and I booked another shoot the very next day after a call out on social media – more on that (surprise proposal) in the next post! Stay tuned!

It’s been a pleasure getting to know both Kaleigh and Daniel this year. They have a wonderful relationship and a great foundation in their church family.
My favorite part of the day was actually the evening after the reception “send off”… Kaleigh and Daniel agreed to meet me in a fast food parking lot for some additional photography – and – it was beautiful!
Many Blessings to the happy couple!
